The Formal Upright is perhaps the most difficult and yet most rewarding of the styles. It should have a straight trunk with good taper.
For me this Bonsai Style look like a Christmas tree, that's why most artist don't like this style, it looks easy to make but hard and doesn't look good unlike other bonsai styles. This kind of style don't win on bonsai competitions as well.
A Pine tree is a perfect example of a formal upright in nature.
